  Solar Energy Calculator

Use the instruction below to access the PVWatts solar calculator provided by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). This    interactive online calculator is used by manufacturers, designers, engineers, installers and O&M professionals worldwide. Now you the    consumer can use this tool to estimate the amount of solar photovoltaic's you can fit on your roof or on usable land space. Next with the    program you can calculate the kilo-watt hours (kWh) and Energy Value ($$) for each month and the total annual. Lastly you can go back    and adjust the parameters to compare the difference in system performance for size, tilt and azimuth angles.

Click the bar below to be redirected to the PVWatts web siteGet Started, enter your address

    Solar Calculator Instructions:
      1. On the pvwatts.nrel.gov homepage, enter your address on the blank space next to “Get Started”.
      2. Click on “GO” on the right side of the address. It will take you to Solar Resource Data page. It defaults to the closest weather data center to your property. PVwatts pulls the historical data from the weather center and uses it in the calculation to determine the estimated annual generation on your property.
      3. Click the Orange Chevron to “Go to system info”
      4. To estimate the amount of Kilo-watts of PV panels your roof can fit click the map below “Draw Your System”
      5. Use the cursor to mark out the corners of your usable roof space. The South roof space will provide the greatest generation but East and West roof spaces should also be considered. The System Capacity for the area you selected shows just above the map.
      6. Click “Save” and you will see the DC System Size (DC) is prefilled with the System Capacity from your map.
      7. Module Type: Choose the Standard unless you know that you are going to use the Premium or Thin Film solar panels.
      8. Array Type:  Choose (roof mount) if you plan to install the panels or Fixed (open rack) for a ground mount. 1 and 2 Axis is typically only used on large utility scale projects.
      9. System Losses: Use the default 14% minimum or increase it if the roof space selected experiences any shade between 9am - 3pm in any month of the year.
      10. Tilt Angle: choose the tilt angle of the solar panels or the tilt angle of your roof.
      11. Azimuth Angle (deg): The azimuth angle is the angle clockwise from true north describing the direction that the array faces. An azimuth angle of 180° is for a south-facing array, and an azimuth angle of zero degrees is for a north-facing array. An East-facing array has an azimuth angle of 90° and West-facing azimuth angle is 270°.
      12.  Advanced Parameters: select the default settings.
      13. Initial Economics (optional): Enter your system type, electricity rate and initial total system cost in cost per DC watts.
      14. Click the Orange Chevron to “Go to PVWatts results”
      15. The results page will give you the estimated AC Energy in kilo-watt hours and Energy Value ($$) total and a breakdown for each month of the year.

What Types of Solar? Why Choose 3 Guys Solar?

The sun is a powerful source of energy that can be used to heat, cool and power your homes. That's because more energy from the sun falls on the earth in one hour, than the energy consumed by everyone in the world in one year. The most commonly used solar technologies for homes and businesses are solar water heating, solar photovoltaic for electricity, solar pool heating and a solar attic fan to extinguish hot air from the attic.

We are Central Florida's premier solar contractor providing "turn key" installations of all types of solar energy products. We design, install and service all major brands of solar photovoltaic, solar hot water systems, solar pool heating systems and solar fans.

Your Life Runs on ENERGY, We Make it RENEWABLE!
GO GREEN: Solar systems can produce electricity sufficient to greatly reduce or maybe even eliminate your monthly electricity charges from the power company, provide a virtually endless supply of hot water and double the swim season of your pool. All this can be done by creating energy from sunlight, a 100% clean energy source with a zero carbon footprint.
